Osimhen accepts €5m pay cut to quit Napoli
Victor Osimhen agreed to waive €5 million of the €16 million salary he was set to earn from Galatasaray this season, requesting that the amount be added to his transfer fee, according to Di Marzio.
Osimhen, who was visibly emotional, expressed relief after Galatasaray and Napoli agreed on a €40 million down payment, with an additional €35 million to be paid within one year.
The agreement also includes a 10% cut on future profits and a bonus based on goals scored.
With this transfer, Osimhen becomes the most expensive player in Turkish football history.
Galatasaray head coach, Okan Buruk told BelNSPORTS: “If he didn’t have this love for Galatasaray, he might have considered other options. In places where he lost hope, I connected with him and kept his spirits alive. We’ve reached the final stage in the transfer process.”
Osimhen is now expected back in Turkey to sign his contract on Friday or Saturday, and Galatasaray management is planning his unveiling at RAMS Park Stadium.
In a related development, Osimhen will earn a lot more than the reported salary of €18 million a year in his new contract with Galatasaray.
The striker earned €12 million for the season-long loan at the Turkish champion.
According to Turkish journalist, Razim Ozan Kutahyal, the striker could pocket as much as €30 million a year through his salary, sponsorships and image rights.
He further reported that the Turkish government is offering tax breaks to football clubs like Galatasaray for this purpose.
