Osimhen faces backlash over teammate outburst

Victor Osimhen
has come under criticism in Turkey after his reaction to teammate Yunus Akgün during Galatasaray’s 4-0 victory over Kayserispor, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Nigeria international appeared visibly frustrated with Akgün during one attacking move, drawing post-match analysis from former Turkey forward Nihat Kahveci.

Speaking on Kontraspor’s YouTube channel, Kahveci suggested that Osimhen’s outburst highlighted the challenges of managing Galatasaray’s star-studded attack.

He argued that the striker would not dare direct a similar reaction towards club captain Mauro Icardi once he is fully fit.

“When Icardi is physically ready, we will watch the two of them play together up front in the Super Lig,” Kahveci said.

“But would Osimhen shout at Icardi if he doesn’t pass the ball? He cannot. Icardi is the captain, the leader, the king. These are what I would call Galatasaray’s sweet problems.”

Kahveci, who earned more than 60 caps for Turkey and is now a television pundit, insisted the incident was more a reflection of the high standards within Galatasaray’s dressing room than a cause for alarm.

Osimhen has already established himself as a key figure at the Turkish champions. After scoring 37 goals in all competitions on loan last season, he completed a permanent move from Napoli this summer.

His partnership with Icardi is expected to be central to coach Okan Buruk’s push for a fourth successive league crown.

Galatasaray’s attacking riches, bolstered by the arrival of Leroy Sané from Bayern Munich and the emergence of Baris Yilmaz, leave Buruk with enviable options but also the challenge of balancing egos within his frontline.(Punch)
