A new database launched by Do No Harm, an advocacy group concerned about the medicalisation of transgender youth, claims to track gender-affirming care provided to minors across the United States, saying no fewer than 13,994 minors received medical treatment for gender dysphoria from 2019 to 2023, with over 5,700 of those children having undergone surgical procedures.

The Do No Harm database, titled “Does My Hospital Transition Kids?” is searchable by state and facility, and covers some 225 children’s hospitals across the US.

It noted providers and hospitals involved in treatments such as puberty blockers, hormone replacement therapy, and sex reassignment surgery.

Dr. Stanley Goldfarb, chairman of Do No Harm, explained that the data is derived from insurance claims filed nationwide, amounting to $119 million in costs for the treatments.

He stressed that the reported figures likely underestimate the actual number of cases, as they do not account for patients covered by certain health plans or those who pay out-of-pocket.

Chloe Cole, a prominent activist and detransitioner, stated that the database showed the broader issue of minors being treated like “guinea pigs” for unproven medical interventions.

“The stats in this database represent thousands of kids who are being treated like guinea pigs for unproven, and sometimes dangerous, medical experiments,” she claimed in a New York Post report.

The state-by-state breakdown shows significant regional disparities in gender-affirming care, with California and Massachusetts incurring the highest costs. In New York, 1,154 minors received gender-affirming surgeries during this period.

Do No Harm’s report also identifies the “dirty dozen,” which includes the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) as the top provider of gender-affirming care for minors. The hospital has treated more than 3,000 patients in its dedicated gender clinic.

According to Fox News, other hospitals providing treatment include Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, Children’s Minnesota, Seattle Children’s, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Boston Children’s Hospital, Rady Children’s Hospital, Children’s National Medical Center, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, Children’s Hospital Colorado, UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
