Bryant, considered to be one of the greatest basketball players in the game’s history, died in a helicopter crash in California on Sunday.

He was flying with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, who also died.

The world has been mourning the loss of one of the greatest players in the sport’s history and one person has designed a way to properly honour him.

In just a day Nick’s petition on Change.org has racked up hundreds of thousands of signatures, all supporting his suggestion that the NBA logo gets remodelled in Kobe’s image.

Writing on Change.org, the petition’s founder Nick M said: “With the untimely and unexpected passing of the great Kobe Bryant please sign this petition in an attempt to immortalise him forever as the new NBA logo.”

Supporters have also tweeted their own versions of the logo, mocked up with Bryant’s silhouette.

The current silhouette belongs to fellow LA Lakers legend Jerry West, who drafted Kobe to the team he called home for 20 seasons back in 1996.

Mr West’s image on the NBA logo has remained unchanged since it was first designed in 1971.

When news of Kobe’s death reached West, the former sportsman released a statement, saying: “This loss of Kobe, Gianna, and everyone on board, is beyond tragic and incomprehensible. I will love Kobe forever and always cherish the time that I spent with him.

“I watched him grow from an energetic kid into the man he became, making a difference in so many peoples [lives].

“He has left the world a better place. Kobe’s legacy will live forever.”
