Former ministers who served under late President Muhammadu Buhari have organized a 7-day fidau prayer for the repose of his soul.
The event which took place at the Ansar-ud-deen Central Mosque in Abuja, had the presence of his ministers including Sadiya Faruk, Sen. Hadi Sirika and Rotimi Amaechi.
Speaking after the prayers, Faruk said the prayer session was a continuation of numerous prayers happening all over the country in memory of the former president.
She said the nation would continue to pray for him and it is not going to be the end.
“So, it is a very important prayer. It is a seven-day prayer that we are conducting this afternoon. What every Muslim and every Nigerian is expected of is to continue to pray for him. And we also continue to do our best to emulate him.
Amechi said he decided to join the prayer despite not being a Muslim as he described the late president as a very disciplined and honest person who loves Nigeria.
On his part, Sirika said the late president meant a lot to him and he is a leader, teacher and mentor whom he emulates.
“He is someone whom I have learnt a lot from and I wish to copy but I am struggling to copy and follow his footpath because he is a man of integrity and honour. He is a man who dedicated his life to service and served this country more than anybody else, living or dead. He has been given positions of trust, and he didn’t betray that trust.”
“He is someone whom I have known all my life. I have been with him for very many reasons. But the most important reason is the verse in the Quran that says, O you who believe, fear Allah and associate yourselves with those who are trustworthy or truthful. And that is the bond between me and President Muhammad Buhari during his life and even after his life.
The organizer of the prayers, Sardaunan Dutse, Nasiru Danu, said it was organized becuase the former president did not need anything else but prayer.
“Even when he was alive, he wasn’t a materialistic person. Somebody who all his life was a level stone. As a military man, through all the leadership, even as a president for eight years, he served this country with all his heart.”
