Place Governance Issues Above 2027 – CPC Forum Urges Tinubu, APC

A forum of state chairmen of the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC), has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to prioritise addressing the avalanche of challenges bedeviling the country rather than early scheming for the 2027 poll.

This was contained in a statement yesterday jointly signed by the Forum’s Secretary, Sulaiman Oyaremi, Lekan Obolo (South-South Representatives), Enyinnaya Ibiam  Nnachi (South-East), Musa Abubakar Danmalili (North-East) and Ahmad Dawayo (North-West) respectively.

Daily Trust reports that the CPC was one of the parties that collapsed its structure to form the APC in 2013. The CPC bloc has become a subject of political controversy in recent times with several camps speaking for it.

A former governor of Nasarawa State, Tanko Al-Makura, recently led some members of the CPC bloc to a meeting where they resolved not to dump the APC but work for President Tinubu and the APC ahead of the 2027 poll

Members of the CPC bloc in the 7th National Assembly had also addressed a press conference in Abuja where they resolved to work for Tinubu’s re-election, but asked the President to address the challenges facing the country.

In the statement yesterday, the state chairmen of the defunct CPC said, “It is a self-evident reality that members of the defunct CPC, especially former state chairmen of the legacy party, have not been treated fairly either through government appointments or party apparatus both at the national and state levels, their contributions to the electoral successes of the party notwithstanding.

“Against the conflicting statements concerning the position of the CPC bloc within the APC, we believe that those who chose to either leave or remain in APC have merely exercised their democratic rights.

“It is, therefore, important that the President, APC governments at all levels and the leadership of the party give these challenges the desired attention. These issues of governance, rather than the 2027 elections, should constitute our priority as we move closer to the second anniversary of the current government.”

“We believe that we owe ourselves a duty to support the current leader of the party, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and contribute to the transformation of APC into an inclusive institution where all stakeholders would have a sense of belonging and ownership.”

The former state chairmen also asked President Tinubu to address the avalanche of challenges bedeviling the country including  insecurity and hardship.

“We also want to use this medium to call the attention of the President to the multifarious challenges that Nigerians face. The high level of insecurity and economic hardship are becoming existential threats to many citizens.(Daily trust)
