Police arrest fake doctor who stitched patient’s womb, urinary tract together in Ondo
The Ondo police command has arrested one Olalekan Rabiu for falsely identifying himself as the chief medical director (CMD) of Iremide Private Hospital, Orita Ojo in Odigbo LGA of the state.
Parading the suspect and three others on Friday, Oyediran Oyeyemi, the state commissioner of police, said the suspect was arrested on December 20 by a special intervention squad when a report of unprofessionalism was reported against him.
Oyeyemi said the suspect carried out a caesarian surgery on a pregnant woman who was later rushed to another hospital owing to excessive bleeding from her private part.
“It was discovered that the self-acclaimed doctor stitched the womb and the urinary tract together,” NAN quoted Oyeyemi as saying.
“During investigation, it was discovered that the suspect is not a medical doctor, but attended School of Health Technology, Ijebu-Ode, where he studied as a community health extension worker.
“And he has been deceiving the people that he is a medical doctor.”
Speaking with journalists, the 31-year-old suspect admitted to being a community health extension worker and has been in the profession for seven years.
“Actually, I am not a doctor but I studied as a community health extension worker at Ijebu Ode School of Health,” he said.
“I am a little bit talented in the line, but there is no helper. I would have gone back to school but I am planning to go back to school now.”
Rabiu said he started performing surgeries in 2015.
He said the caesarian operation he carried out on the patient in question was successful, but the patient came back after 27 days to complain of vaginal bleeding.
“When she came back after 10 days for check-up, I discovered that she did not take any drugs and it is not hygienic at all,” he said.
“After 27 days of operation, she came back again complaining of vaginal bleeding. To save her life, I referred her immediately to the trauma centre in Ondo Town.
“I just want people to help me as I have a nine-month-old pregnant wife at home now. I promise that I will not do it again.” (The Cable)
