Police arrest killers of Major-General, others in Imo state
The Imo State Police Command has apprehended a dangerous kidnap syndicate responsible for the abduction and subsequent murder of retired Major General Richard Duru.
Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma, addressing the press at the command’s headquarters in Owerri, revealed that the syndicate was dismantled through meticulous intelligence gathering and sustained efforts by the command’s anti-kidnapping unit.
“The suspects, identified as Chukwunonso Emmanuel, Okoroigwe Goodness, and Innocent Ogu, were apprehended in different locations across Imo and Anambra States,” Commissioner Aboki who was represented by police spokesman Henry Okoye, said.
“They have confessed to the heinous crime of kidnapping and murdering Major General Duru, as well as admitting their affiliation with the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) /Eastern Security Network (ESN),” he added.
He further stated that the police operation resulted in the recovery of 48 firearms of various types, 552 assorted calibers of live ammunition, and several stolen vehicles.
The Commissioner of Police lauded the commendable efforts of the operatives involved in achieving this operational success, urging them to maintain their unwavering commitment to combating criminal activities in the state.
“These suspects will face the full wrath of the law as they are charged to court upon the completion of investigations,” Commissioner Aboki affirmed.
