Police arrest man for ‘defiling’ 9-month-old baby in Lagos
The Lagos police command says a 27-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly defiling a nine-month-old baby in the state.
NAN reports that Benjamin Hundeyin, police spokesperson in the state, confirmed the development on Wednesday.
Hundeyin said a concerned resident reported the matter to the police at about 10am on Monday.
He said the suspect had crept into the apartment where the mother kept the baby before she stepped out of the house to purchase an item.
The suspect, who resides in Railway Ijora Badia area of the state was said to have escaped from the location after he sexually abused the baby.
“The suspect allegedly had sexual intercourse with the little baby and immediately ran away from the scene,” he said.
“The mother of the baby, aged 16 years, came to the station with the baby and was issued medical form to enable her to take the child to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
“However, on Tuesday at about 11:15 pm, the suspect was smoked out from his hiding by detectives from Ijora Badia Division.”
The police spokesperson said underwear stained with blood was recovered as an exhibit when the operatives visited the crime scene.
