Police arrest Premier League players for rape
Police have announced the arrest of two Premier League players over an alleged rape following last weekend’s round of matches.
According to a BBC report, the unnamed players are 19 and play for the same club.
They were arrested in front of their club’s stadium over the weekend but have since been released on bail after being interviewed by the police.
“Officers have arrested two men following a report of a rape,” a police spokesperson said. “A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape.
“A second 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape. Both men have since been released on police bail,” the police added.
According to the BBC, the incident occurred on Friday and was first reported by The Sun. It is unknown whether the players have been suspended by their club pending the outcome of the police investigation.
Following waves of high-profile sexual assault cases involving players, the Premier League launched mandatory sexual consent training for players and staff.
