Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of 35-year-old Adijat Sulaimon and 28-year-old Sarah Abosede Olarewaju in the state.

The suspects: Adebayo Olamide Azeez, ‘m’, 35 and Mariam Awuraji, ‘f’, 38, were also linked with the disappearance and ritual killing of hook-up girls in Lagos and Ogun states.

Parading the suspects, yesterday, at the command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, the state Commissioner of Police (CP), Abiodun Alamutu, said the arrest followed investigation into the killing of Adijat Sulaimon, who was initially reported missing at Onipanu Division, Ogun State. He said: “On February 23, one Adebayo Olamide Azeez, ‘m’, who was earlier at large, was arrested through credible information about his criminal hideout.

“The suspect made a startling revelation on serial killings of mainly female victims met through the hook-up platform, ‘mychat’, on social media.

“He confessed to having lured seven victims from September 2023 to January 11, among whom was Adijat Sulaimon, which triggered the investigation.

“Recall the press briefing held on February 15, where 10 female bags recovered from the shrine of one of the previously arrested suspects, Moses Abidemi Aruwaji, ‘m’, were showcased.

“A relative of one of the deceased, on February 23, contacted the Deputy Commissioner of Police, the State Criminal Department (SCID), Eleweran, Bode Ojajuni, after watching the press briefing on the television.

“The relative identified a bag belonging to her sister, one Olanrewaju Sarah Abosede, who had been missing. And the suspect identified the owner of the bag as being among those they murdered.”

The CP said: “Adebayo Olamide Azeez confessed and gave vivid details of how he conspired with one Moses Abidemi Awuraji, ‘m’ and his wife, Maria, to kill one Adijat Sulaimon, ‘f’ and Sarah Abosede Olanrewaju, ‘f’ at the house of Moses Abidemi Awuraji, at Igbo Olomi Atan, Ogun State.

“The suspects strangled their victims to death, dismembered their body parts, and sold them to Oluwo Monday Samuel, ‘m’, and Alfa Ariwo, ‘m’, (who is still at large) for ritual purposes.

“The suspect confessed to the killing of 10 different ladies at the Igbo Olomi residence of Moses Abidemi. However, Mariam Aruwaji was arrested with one blue Tecno Camon phone belonging to the late Sarah Abosede Olanrewaju.”

CP Alamutu advised youths to use social media and attendant technology positively, and desist from untoward behaviours, stressing that all the victims were lured to their untimely deaths through social media.

He said the command was working assiduously to unravel the identity of other victims. He advised families who have missing relatives to come forward with photographs to the SCID. He added that the suspects assured the police that they could recognise their victims if the photographs are displayed.(Guardian)
