Call records from the police on Liam Payne, the pop star who rose to international fame as a member of One Direction, have suggested that the 31-year-old was intoxicated before his death.

Payne had tragically passed away at the age of 31 after falling from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Wednesday this week.

Payne fell from the third floor of the hotel and sustained severe injuries.

Pablo Policicchio, Communications Director for the Buenos Aires Security Ministry, said, “Payne had jumped from the balcony of his room.”

Authorities are still investigating the circumstances of his death, with ongoing speculation regarding the influence of substances.

The hotel manager’s 911 call captured the urgency, describing a “guest who is overwhelmed with drugs and alcohol” as the situation escalated.

Liam Payne had been open about his struggle with alcoholism, previously sharing in a July 2023 YouTube video that he had been sober for six months after receiving treatment. His representatives have not responded to calls and emails for comment on the incident.

Fans quickly gathered at the CasaSur Hotel after hearing the news, setting up a makeshift memorial with candles and flowers.

Many expressed shock and sorrow, including 21-year-old Isabella Milesi, who said, “I didn’t think he was going to die so young.”

Payne leaves behind a 7-year-old son, Bear Grey Payne, whom he shared with Cheryl, a fellow musician. He is also survived by his parents, Geoff and Karen Payne, and two sisters, Ruth and Nicola.
