Police confirm extradition of suspected murderer of Lead University First Class student

Following his extradition from Doha in Qatar by the Nigerian government, murder suspect, Benjamin Best Nnayereugo a.k.a. Killaboi has been handed over to the Lagos State Police Command for prosecution.

Killaboi fled to the Middle East country in 2023 after allegedly killing his lover, Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe, 21, at his 24A Abiola Apooyi Street, Oral Estate, Ajah on July 13.

The suspect, who confessed to murdering the victim in cold blood in a video he posted on social media after fleeing the country, also allegedly boasted that nothing would happen to him, insinuating he was above the law.

The death of Oseodion, a First-Class student at Leads City University, Ibadan, sparked outrage on the social media with Nigerians demanding answers from the police and other security agencies over the seeming inability to track and arrest the self-confessed murderer, especially as he continually posted videos and pictures of himself living in opulence abroad.

Unknown to many, the suspect was operating under aliases and false identities to evade arrest. He was also alleged to have been arrested in Free Town, Sierra Leone but escaped lawful custody during a jailbreak in that country on November 26, 2023.

Killaboi, who relocated to Doha in January 2025 under a false identity, Toure Abdoulaye, enabled by a fake Guinean passport, was said to have secured illegal employment and continuing his life until robust international cooperation and advanced biometrics fished him out.

Handing over the suspect to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police (CP) Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, the CP INTERPOL NCB, Bode Ojajuni, said his arrest was made possible by robust international cooperation.

He said the suspect, after committing the offence in 2023, had continued to evade arrest by traversing countries in West Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

He said the handover to the Lagos Command was in line with the country’s criminal justice system to enable the command complete its investigation and prosecute the suspect accordingly.

In his remarks, CP Jimoh revealed that the suspect was being investigated for murder, stealing and fraud, adding that he allegedly withdrew some money from the victim’s account.

An earlier statement by Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) said the fugitive was returned to Nigeria in the early hours of Saturday, April 19, through the coordinated efforts with the Ministry of Justice, INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Force Headquarters Abuja and the Qatari Judicial Authorities.

According to Adejobi, the extradition followed a petition from the family of the deceased, submitted through their legal representatives and dated September 24, 2024.

“The matter was assigned to INTERPOL NCB Abuja for investigation. Investigation revealed that the suspect, Benjamin Best Nnayereugo, murdered Miss Onuwabhagbe, a 21-year-old first-class student of Lead City University, Ibadan, at his residence located at No. 24A Abiola Apooyi Street, Oral Estate, Ajah, Lagos, on 13th July, 2023.

“After committing the crime, he fled Nigeria and later released an online video purporting to confess to the act, a deceptive strategy to derail investigative efforts.

“‎Following his declaration as wanted by the NPF Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on 13th October 2023, an INTERPOL Red Notice was issued for his global apprehension.

“He was initially arrested in Freetown, Sierra Leone on 20th October 2023 under the false identity “KANU PRINCETON SAMUEL,” but escaped custody during a prison break on 26th November, 2023 in Freetown.

‎‎”Further intelligence gathering revealed that the suspect continued to evade law enforcement, traversing multiple regions including West Africa, East Asia and the Middle East, under forged identities before eventually relocating to Doha, Qatar on 24th January, 2025.”

Adejobi said he was arrested by the Qatari authorities in February, adding that an official extradition request, processed via the Federal Ministry of Justice, Abuja, was subsequently approved by the Qatari judicial authorities, resulting in his repatriation to Nigeria.

‎”‎The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, while recognising the strength in the synergy amongst nations to curb trans-border crimes, commended the diligence of INTERPOL NCB Abuja and extended sincere appreciation to the Honorable Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Government of Qatar, INTERPOL NCB Doha, and the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar for their invaluable collaboration in securing the fugitive’s return.

‎”‎The Inspector-General of Police further assured the public of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring that the suspect faces diligent prosecution, as part of the NPF’s dedication to justice and the safety of all Nigerians,” he said.
