Police Officer Steals Sowore’s Glasses During Protest
A police officer allegedly attached to the Force Headquarters in Abuja has been accused of stealing the glasses of Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 general election, during a protest on Monday.
Sowore, who disclosed the incident via his Instagram page, claimed the officer, dressed in mufti, stole his Ray-Ban glasses during the demonstration and is now being shielded by his superiors.
“This Nigeria Police Force officer, dressed in mufti, stole my Al Rayban glasses at the Force Headquarters during #PoliceProtest today. His superiors are shielding him. Please DM if you know his name and rank as soon as possible!” Sowore wrote.
The protest, led by Sowore alongside other activists and retired police officers, was held to demand improved welfare and the removal of police retirees from the contributory pension scheme, which they described as exploitative and discriminatory.
The Nigerian Union of Retired Police Officers, which organised the demonstration, vowed to picket the National Assembly before marching to the Force Headquarters. The group claims that many of its members have died without receiving fair pension entitlements.
