The minority caucus in the House of Representatives has denied it called for the resignation of embattled National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus.

It also said an alleged online meeting of the caucus in the House never took place.

In a statement by the Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu, said a meeting, which resolved Secondus should step aside in the interest of the party never took place.

The leadership of the PDP caucus in the House on Sunday asked Secondus to step aside in the interest of the party.

But the Minority leadership, in a statement titled “PDP Reps haven’t met over the current leadership challenges in the party” said if such a meeting held at all, it did not follow established procedures.

The statement reads “The attention of the Minority Caucus, particularly members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives, have been drawn to news reports purporting to be the intervention and outcome of an online meeting of the PDP Caucus in the House regarding the current leadership challenge within the party.

“If such a meeting held, it was without the knowledge of the leadership of the Minority Caucus, and therefore in breach of established procedure.”

Elumelu said PDP lawmakers in the House were “working in concert with organs of the party to ensure sustainable resolution of the current challenges that will be in the overall interest of the party and Nigerians.”

He appealed to PDP faithful, particularly PDP members in the House of Representatives, to exercise caution and patience as the party addresses the present leadership challenges.

The Elumelu- led Minority caucus in the House was only recently recognised by the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC) having emerged against the support of the party leadership.

Elumelu and his team were suspended from the party by the Uche Secondus- led NWC, giving rise to a PDP caucus in the House working outside the Minority caucus.
