The House of Representatives on Thursday resolved to immortalise the late former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Umar Na’Abba, by renaming the National Assembly Service Commission building after him to honour his legacy.

The resolution followed the adoption of a motion by Aliyu Sani Madaki (NNPP, Kano) and other House members from Kano.

Madaki, while moving the motion, recalled that Na’Abba died on September 27, 2023.

He said the late Na’Abba had been eulogised as an influential Speaker of the House of Representatives between 1999 and 2003 on “account of his courageous, dynamic, outspoken pursuit of legislative independence and revolutionary approach to running the House as Speaker within the period.”

Madaki said the late Na’Abba, as Speaker, embarked on a number of measures to ensure the independence of the legislature, which included but not limited to: “profound scrutiny of the budget framework, making robust adjustments where necessary; strengthening House committees and fashioning out a cohesive, inclusive, mutual and participatory House.”

Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, after the adoption of the motion, directed Clerk of the House to transmit the resolution to the Senate for concurrence.
