Roger Stone: Trump thanks Attorney General Barr for carrying out wish
Amidst criticism, US President Donald Trump has congratulated Attorney General William Barr after four government lawyers who prosecuted Trump’s longtime confidant Roger Stone resigned in protest.
Barr went over the heads of the four prosecutors to recommend a lighter sentence for Stone, Trump’s ally and newly convicted felon.
The four prosecutors who won Stone’s conviction – Aaron Zelinsky, Adam Jed, Michael Marando and Jonathan Kravis – in court filing withdrew from the case. Kravis told the court that he was also quitting his job as a federal prosecutor.
Trump said on Twitter Wednesday: “Congratulations to Attorney General Bill Barr for taking charge of a case that was totally out of control and perhaps should not have even been brought. Evidence now clearly shows that the Mueller Scam was improperly brought & tainted. Even Bob Mueller lied to Congress!”
Prosecutors had asked a federal judge on Monday to sentence Stone to seven to nine years in prison.
The Republican operative, a longtime Trump friend and adviser who spent decades pushing him to run for president, was convicted of lying to Congress, witness tampering, and obstructing a congressional probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Congratulations to Attorney General Bill Barr for taking charge of a case that was totally out of control and perhaps should not have even been brought. Evidence now clearly shows that the Mueller Scam was improperly brought & tainted. Even Bob Mueller lied to Congress!
Two months in jail for a Swamp Creature, yet 9 years recommended for Roger Stone (who was not even working for the Trump Campaign). Gee, that sounds very fair! Rogue prosecutors maybe? The Swamp! @foxandfriends @TuckerCarlson
