Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted 35 of the 53 missiles and 46 of the 47 attack drones launched by Russia overnight on June 1, the country’s Air Force reported.

Russia executed a large-scale assault on multiple regions using Shahed-type drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles, resulting in damage to energy infrastructure.

Moscow’s forces reportedly launched 35 Kh-101/555 cruise missiles from Tu-95 bombers over the Caspian Sea, alongside four Iskander-M ballistic missiles and one Iskander-K cruise missile from occupied Crimea.

Additionally, Russian forces fired 10 Kalibr cruise missiles from the northeastern Black Sea, three Kh-59/69 guided air-launched missiles from occupied territories in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, and 47 Shahed-type drones from Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, according to the Air Force.

Ukraine’s air defenses managed to shoot down 30 Kh-101/555 missiles, four Kalibr missiles, one Iskander-K missile, and 46 drones.

Ukraine’s Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko confirmed that energy infrastructure in the Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kirovohrad, and Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts was targeted by Russian forces. Restoration and emergency workers are currently on the scene, assessing the damage.

This attack is the latest in a series of Russian aerial strikes aimed at Ukraine’s energy grid, which has been heavily targeted since the spring.(AFP)
