Sacked Rivers APC executives drag Ganduje-led National Working Committee to court
Rivers State’s All Progressives Congress (APC) Executives have taken legal action against the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, contesting what they claim to be their wrongful removal from office.
The lawsuit, filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, seeks to prevent the inauguration of a Caretaker Committee in Rivers State.
In an ex parte application lodged by Peter Ohochukwu on behalf of the elected State Working Committee (SEC) members, the court is being asked to interpret constitutional provisions, including those in the Nigerian Constitution and the APC’s amended Constitution.
The defendants named in the suit include APC national chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and the party’s national secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, alongside other members of the APC NWC.
Law enforcement entities like the Nigeria Police Force and the Independent National Electroal Commission were joined in the suit.
The application requests an interim injunction to restrain the defendants from taking actions that could interfere with the functions of the APC SEC members until the motion on notice is heard and determined.
Additionally, the suit seeks an interim order to maintain the status quo until the full hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
