Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered all political appointees seeking elective offices in his government to resign.

This is contained in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola.

The ultimatum issued for the resignation of political appointees by the governor was April 19, 2022.

Affected by the governor’s order are political appointees who are delegates to the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, Governorship and Presidential Primaries Election, including those who are holding positions in the Party as well as Public Servants who might wish to engage in partisan political activities or seek elective Offices.

According to the circular, “It is hereby notified for general information, in line with the recently amended Electoral Act and provisions of Rule 040524 of the Lagos State Public Service Rules (2015), that Mr. Babajide Olusola
Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of Lagos State, has approved the release of all Political Appointees who
are delegates to the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, Governorship and
Presidential Primaries Election, including those who are holding positions in the Party as well as Public
Servants who may wish to engage in partisan political activities or seek elective Offices.

“Accordingly, all persons seeking elective Office are required to put in their Letters of Resignation.
In this regard, all Letters of all Resignation by State Executive Council Members, which should be
submitted not later than 19 April 2022.

“They should be addressed to: The Secretary to the State Government, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, The Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.

“Similarly, Letters of Resignation by all other categories of Political Appointees and Public Servants, which should be submitted not later than 19 April 2022, should be addressed to: The Head of Service, Office of the Head of Service
Public Service Office, The Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.”

It added that civil servants were required to comply with standard procedure as provided in the Public Service Rules (2015).
