Scores of terrorists killed in foiled attack in Niger – Police
The Police Command in Niger said its men have killed scores of terrorists in a foiled attack on Nasko in Magama Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
DSP Wasiu Abiodun, Command Public Relation Officer said a large herd of cattle was recovered and 20 abducted victims freed
He explained said that on February 12 at about 16:30 hours, armed bandits/terrorists attacked some villages around Nasko, Magama LGA and rustled a large number of cattle.
However, the tactical team of the Command sent for reinforcement to the area and military personnel with the vigilante engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle along Ibeto cattle route.
Abiodun said the shootout lasted for about two hours while the hoodlums were trying to escape with the cattle
Consequently, scores of bandits were neutralised and the rustled cows were recovered.
Other items recovered at the scene include one AK-47 magazine with 30 rounds of live ammunition, seven phone handsets and 1 Honda motorcycle.
Similarly on 13 February, at about 0700 hours, based on credible intelligence, Police operatives attached to Nasko Division raided an identified hideout of bandits at Anaba hilltop, Magama LGA.
During the raid, one 1Ak-47 rifle with thirteen rounds of live ammunition, hidden between the rocks on the hilltop were recovered.
The spokesman reiterated the commitment of the Command to rid the state of banditry and other criminals.
