South Africa’s dumbest car thieves drive straight to prison

Four car thieves accused of stealing a car in Cape Town, South Africa on Sunday morning, drove straight to Pollsmoor Prison in an attempt to flee from police.

Cape Town law enforcement spokesman Wayne Dyason said the alleged robbers were being chased by police when they drove into Pollsmoor Prison – where anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela was once jailed.

They had stolen the car in the Hout Bay area and were chased by police only for them to drive straight to the West Lake entrance of the Pollsmoor Prison. The entrance is used for visitors and prison wardens who live on the property.

Once they were in the prison, the robbers exited the vehicle and made a run for it on the grounds but they were swiftly arrested.

Wayne Dyason said:

“They were chased by police and drove straight to the West Lake entrance of the prison, which is used for visitors and the prison wardens who live on the property.

They got out and ran into the grounds of the prison where they were arrested.”

The four criminals who have been dubbed Cape Town’s dumbest criminals seemed to be extremely dangerous. According to Dyason, when the robbers were searched at the police station and their records checks, it was found that they roughly had 35 cases of murder, attempted murder, theft and possession of illegal firearms pending against them.
