Stock Market Records N259bn Gain
The equities market of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) has sustained its positive momentum second time this week as the market capitalisation increased by N259.4 billion to N21.8 trillion.
This was due to strong demand in Airtel Africa (+7.6 per cent), WAPCO (+3.8%) and MTNN (+0.5%) stakes.
The benchmark index rose 121 basis points (bps) to close at 41,584.94 points while the Year to date return improved to 3.3%.
Activity level advanced as volume and value traded rose 40.5 per cent and 110.8 per cent to 467.9m units and N5.6bn respectively.
The most traded stocks by volume were Transcorp (45.9m units), Mansard (34.7m units) and Sovrenins (26.4m units) while Airtel Africa (N1.2bn), Zenith (N501.0m) and Dangote cement (N494.6m) topped by value.
Performance across sectors under review was bullish as four indicators gained against 2 that lost.
Investor sentiment as measured by market breadth improved to 1.8x from 0.7x recorded previously as 32 stocks advanced against 18 losers.
