The Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will rekindle their bitter rivalry when both sides take the field today, in the round of 16 at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast.

Saturday’s clash will be the first competitive meeting between Nigeria and Cameroon since their encounter at the same stage of this tournament in 2019.

The Super Eagles have lost three AFCON finals to Cameroon, with the most painful defeat coming in front of the Lagos fans, at AFCON 2000 final.

Nigeria has since defeated Cameroon twice in the AFCON knockout stages; a 2-1 quarterfinal victory in 2004, and a 3-2 round of 16 win in 2019. Saturday’s match presents another opportunity to extend the run. Tune in to GO Football (ch 61) at 9pm to watch the action live.

Also, on Saturday, the Palancas Negras of Angola, will face Brave Warriors of Namibia, in the first round of 16 matches, live on GO Football (ch 61), at 6pm. The two nations produced surprising results to reach the knockout stage.

Namibia picked up a historic 0-0 draw against Mali in their last group E match, to progress to AFCON knockout stages for the first time in their history. Collin Benjamin’s side secured four points to finish as one of the best third-place teams in the group stages.

Angola emerged surprise winners of Group E, after securing a 2-0 victory over 2013 runner-up, Burkina Faso, in the last group match. They also held the 2019 winners, Algeria, to a 1-1 draw in the first group match.
