Jigawa State has successfully raised over N1 billion in support for victims of the recent tanker explosion in Majiya in Taura Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

The announcement was made by the state Commissioner for Information, Home Affairs, Youths and Sports, Sagir Musa, following a State Executive Council (SEC) meeting chaired by Governor Umar Namadi Danmodi at the Government House in Dutse

During the meeting, the council confirmed a pledge of N1,448,900,000 from various individuals and organisations to assist victims and the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy.

Also, it was decided that the victims would receive food supplies valued at N60 million, which includes essential items such as 25 kg of rice, 10 kg of millet, 10 kg of maize, and one carton of spaghetti for each of the 210 deceased families, as well as those hospitalised.

Each victim’s family will also receive N200,000, along with the state government covering all medical expenses incurred.

The council expressed its gratitude to the Federal Government, the 35 state governments, and numerous individuals and organisations, both within and outside Nigeria, who have offered condolences and support following the Majiya tanker explosion.

Furthermore, the council approved the allocation of N3,554,642,554.46 for counterpart funding for the first to fourth quarters of 2024 under the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). These funds will be used for the construction of 304 classrooms, renovation of 514 classrooms, construction of 27 school perimeter walls, procurement of 29,984 sets of classroom furniture, and 646 sets of teachers’ furniture to be distributed throughout the state.

The council also approved N354,715,772.25 for the construction of city gates at Andaza, Karnaya, and Laraba in Dutse Metropolis as part of the ongoing beautification efforts in the state capital.
