Tears flowed freely at the burial of the grandson of the late Premier of Northern Nigeria and Magajin Garin Sokoto, Hassan Ahmad Danbaba, who died yesterday in Kaduna.

The remains of Danbaba were brought to Sokoto by a Nigerian Air Force aircraft in the company of Governor Nasir El-rufa’i of Kaduna State among others.

His body was then taken in an ambulance to his family’s residence at Binanchi in preparation for the final burial rites.

The Chief Imam of Sultan Bello Mosque, Sheikh Malami Affara, led his funeral prayer around 6pm after which his body was buried at their family’s burial ground in Binanchi.

The burial was also attended by Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto and his Kebbi counterpart, Atiku Bagudu.

Other dignitaries at the burial include the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, and the former Governor of Sokoto, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa.

Buhari Abdulsalami, Bello, Wamakko mourn Danbaba 

President Muhammadu Buhari in a statement issued by his media aide, Garba Shehu, has expressed deep shock over the death of the Magajin Garin.

The President said, ‘’I am shocked beyond words. The Magajin Gari leaves a void that will be difficult to fill in the Sultanate and our nation.

‘’He was always full of happiness and warmth. He will be remembered as an envoy of the culture and traditions of the Sultanate.

‘’My prayers and thoughts are with the family he left behind, the government and people of Sokoto State.”

A former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, (Retd.) has condoled with the sultan on the death of Danbaba.

In a statement issued in Minna, Niger State capital yesterday Abdulsalami expressed sadness over the death of the only surviving grandson of the late Premier of the defunct Northern Region and Sardaunan Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello.

He described the deceased as a highly respected traditional chief who touched many souls through his social connections and economic endowments.

“Magaji Hassan Danbaba will forever be remembered for his generosity, steadfastness and humility. His death is a colossal loss to humanity in general and to the Sokoto Caliphate in particular,” he said.

Abubakar prayed to Allah to forgive Danbaba’s shortcomings, accept his good deeds, admit him into Al-janatul Firdaus and give his families the fortitude to bear the loss.

Also, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has expressed shock over the death.

Bello in a condolence message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Onogwu Mohammed, described the late Magajin Garin Sokoto as a replica of his grandfather, saying he lived a life of service to his community.

In his own message, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, expressed shock over the demise of Danbaba.

Wamakko in a statement by his media aide, Hassan Sahabi Sanyinnawal, described his death as a great loss not only to members of his immediate family but to Nigeria in general.

He prayed Allah to grant him Jannatul Firdaus and grant his family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
