Tension mounts as NNPC plans massive staff redeployment

Palpable
tension has descended on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited Towers in Abuja, as the company prepares for extensive staff redeployments to enhance operational efficiency and boost profitability.

The move, orchestrated by the new management, has sparked concern among employees, Daily Sun learned yesterday.

A source, who pleaded not to be named because he was not authorised to speak, told Daily Sun in confidence that the new management, led by its Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Mr. Bayo Ojulari, is determined to ensure greater efficiency across every strategic business unit of the company.

The planned redeployments come in the wake of the the removal of the Managing Directors of the three refineries located in Warri, Port Harcourt and Kaduna, in addition to the axing of more than 200 workers who are due for retirement in the next year but have been advised to proceed on terminal leave.

To ensure he achieves his vision, the source said the GCEO has concluded that round pegs must go into round holes in order to fulfill the mandate given to him by President Bola Tinubu.

“In the coming days through weeks, we shall be seeing massive redeployments across all the subsidiaries and also in the NNPC Towers. The President has given the GCEO some targets, and he cannot afford to fail on this mandate.”

“The NNPC is blessed with the right human capital, but there is a misplacement of job roles in certain aspects of the business. This is what the GCEO is trying to correct, especially the imbalance in appointments. As human beings, we detest change. Some people have been in particular roles for a long time without adding value. It is time to bring in people with fresh ideas to drive the vision of the new NNPC,” the source added.

The source further noted that the redeployment will not be well-received by some, as it will see some workers leaving NNPC to other business units outside Abuja.

He explained that there would be stiff resistance to these redeployments because some people are not ready to leave their comfort zones.

Since assuming duty, the source added, Ojulari has been receiving briefings from the leadership of various business units in a bid to fully understand the workings of the company. (Daily Sun)
