The Weeknd donates $1million to provide 2 million meals
Canadian singer, songwriter, and record producer, Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, popularly known as The Weeknd, has donated $1million to provide 2 million meals for displaced people in Ethiopia.
He also spoke against the alleged ongoing massacre in Ethiopia.
The singer who is noted for his versatility in vocal style, music production, and eccentric presentation often cited as an influence to contemporary music posted on his Insta story said he is heartbroken for the Ethiopian people.
His post reads: “My heart breaks for my people of Ethiopia as innocent citizens ranging from small children to the elderly are being senselessly murdered and entire villages are being displaced out of fear and destruction.
“I will be donating $1 million dollars to provide 2 million meals through the United Nations World Food Programme and encourage those who can to please give as well.”
