Three NDLEA Officers Shot By Gunmen During Abuja Raid, Hospitalised
Three officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) are currently hospitalised in an undisclosed hospital where they are receiving medical treatment after sustaining gunshot wounds during a raid operation in the Jahi area of Abuja on Thursday night.
According to a statement released on Friday by the NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the operatives were acting on intelligence and surveillance reports when they raided an uncompleted building in the NNPC area of Jahi.
Babafemi said that the operation led to the seizure of 74 bottles of codeine, 10 litres of codeine syrup, 48 grams of tramadol 225mg, 4.9 kilograms of skunk (a potent strain of cannabis), and five android phones.
However, “As the NDLEA team made their way out of the location, they came under gun attack,” he said.
“Three of the NDLEA personnel involved in the raid sustained gunshot injuries: one in the rib and two others on their back and leg.”
The wounded officers were initially stabilised at the Police Clinic in Garki Area 1 before they were transferred to the National Hospital Abuja for further medical attention.”
Babafemi stated that Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), expressed his appreciation to the staff of the Police Clinic for their swift intervention and to the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital for personally overseeing the ongoing treatment of the injured operatives.
Currently on official duty in Kano, Babafemi said that Marwa also spoke with the injured officers via phone to offer his support and wish them a speedy recovery.
He assured them that the agency would work closely with other security outfits to identify and bring the perpetrators of the attack to justice.
The agency vowed to intensify its crackdown on drug trafficking operations across the country, despite the dangers faced by its personnel.
