Tight race unfolds in Kogi state as results of governorship election trickles in

As the collation of results continues in Kogi State, a closely contested gubernatorial race is on with Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muri Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vying for the coveted position.

The competition is a three-horse race, with the latest figures from 149 polling units across five local government areas revealing that APC’s Usman Ododo leads with 21,047 votes. SDP’s Muri Ajaka closely follows with 7,324 votes, while PDP’s Dino Melaye trails with 2,529 votes.

Notably, Ajaka has garnered substantial support in the Kogi East senatorial district, his home region.

Meanwhile, at Governor Yahaya Bello’s polling unit, the APC won 840 votes, while the PDP and SDP scored zero.

In a twist, Dino Melaye claimed victory in his polling unit at Iluafon Quarters, Aiyetoro-Gbede, Ijumu LG, securing 210 votes. The APC followed with 22 votes, ADC with seven, and SDP with one vote.

Ajaka, the SDP candidate, also emerged victorious in his polling unit at Grade 1 Area Court, Ajaka Ward 07 in Igalamela/Odolu LG, amassing 111 votes. The APC secured five votes, while the PDP and ADC scored zero.

As the counting and collation processes unfold, the political landscape in Kogi State is tense, promising an intriguing conclusion to the gubernatorial contest.
