TikTok influencer banned over fake news about Kiki Osinbajo
The social media site TikTok has banned a Liberian user named @Realcharley22 for spreading fake news about the daughter of Nigeria’s vice president, Kiki Osinbajo.
Earlier in the week, the TikTok influencer had posted that Kiki had been arrested in the UK because she had a lot of dollars on her.
Even though the user posted photos and videos to back up their claim, Nigerian blogger Tunde Ednut posted that it wasn’t true, the user has since come out to say that the news isn’t true. So, a lot of Nigerians reported the page for misleading the public. When the page was checked on Saturday, it was found that the account was no longer on TikTok.
@Realcharley22 Just 24 hours after he posted the fake video, he posted another video in which he apologized to Kiki and the people of Nigeria. He said that his source had mistaken the woman in the video for Kiki.
He said, “I want to apologise to Kiki Osinbajo because she never got arrested. The story is not true and my source deceived me and took someone else as Kiki.
“I want to make a disclaimer on the video I posted earlier, I am so sorry, my followers and Kiki Osinbajo, she never got arrested.
“Popular Nigerian blogger, Tunde Ednut just confirmed on Instagram that it is false, Kiki never got arrested. He asked me to take down the story and it is confirmed that the story is false.”
Kiki and her father are said to have flown into Abuja on Tuesday, after the VP spoke at a UN World Tourism Organization global conference in Lagos.
