Tinubu, First Lady celebrate Nollywood icon Nkem Owoh at 70, beauty mogul Opral Benson at 90

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has felicitated veteran Nollywood actor, comedian, and scriptwriter, Nkem Owoh, on his 70th birthday, lauding his indelible contributions to Nigeriaโ€™s entertainment industry.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Owoh as โ€œa true legend whose talent has brought joy to generations of Nigerians and Africans across the globe.โ€

Popularly known as โ€œOsuofia,โ€ a moniker immortalized by his roles in Osuofia in London and Ikuku 1 and 2, Owoh has remained a beloved figure in Nollywood for decades. His wit, versatility, and dedication to storytelling, the President noted, have not only entertained millions but have also showcased Nigeriaโ€™s rich cultural heritage to the world.

โ€œThrough his iconic roles, particularly as Osuofia, Mr. Owoh has etched his name in the annals of our cultural history. He used laughter and creativity to reflect our societyโ€™s vibrancy and resilience,โ€ Tinubu said.

Owoh, a recipient of the Africa Movie Academy Award (AMAA) for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2008 for Stronger Than Pain, is widely regarded as one of Nollywoodโ€™s most influential figures. Beyond the screen, he has inspired a new generation of storytellers and content creators.

โ€œHis work has entertained and united communities through laughter and storytelling. I wish him continued health, happiness, and creative fulfillment in the years ahead. On behalf of the Government and people of Nigeria, I wish Mr. Nkem Owoh a joyous 70th birthday celebration. May his infectious spirit continue to inspire the younger generation of entertainers, who already love creating โ€˜contentโ€™ on social media,โ€ the President said.

The Presidentโ€™s message underscores his administrationโ€™s appreciation for Nigeriaโ€™s creative industry, which has gained international acclaim and serves as a vital pillar of the nationโ€™s cultural and economic landscape.

Meanwhile, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has joined family, friends, and well-wishers in celebrating Chief Mrs. Opral Benson on the occasion of her 90th birthday anniversary, lauding her contributions to womenโ€™s empowerment and the beauty industry.
