….Kicks Strongly Against Muslim-Muslim Ticket
…Says its Unconstitutional, Illegal Decision
….Urges Nigerians to reject APC

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has in strong term, condemned the decision of the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, by its flag bearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who just picked Formed Governor of Borno State, Shettima Kashim as running mate for the 2023 presidential election.

Against the backdrop of the announcement by Tinubu, stating that he has pencilled down Sen. Shettima as Presidential running mate in next year’s election, the Rights group in a statement by its National Cordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, described Tinubu’s decision to pick a Muslim for the number two job in the country as, “irresponsible, irrational, unpatriotic, unconstitutional”, saying the APC has been hijacked by an agenda “to declare full Islamic State in Nigeria.”

HURIWA called on Nigerians to make their choice of the best President of the country between the Labour Party’s Peter Obi/Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed and the Peoples Democratic Party’s Alhaji Atiku Abubakar/Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

“In the consideration of the Rights group, any vote donated to the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the All Progressives Congress is a vote for the disintegration of Nigeria after the exit of President Muhammadu Buhari assuming without conceding that the APC will win.

HURIWA recalled that the All Progressives Congress Presidential Candidate and National Leader of the party on Sunday, confirmed Senator Kashim Shettima as his Vice Presidential candidate.

Tinubu personally disclosed his choice to journalists at the Daura residence of President Muhammadu Buhari. The APC flag bearer arrived Daura Sunday afternoon to pay Sallah homage to President Buhari who arrived his home town on Friday.

According to the Rights group, Sen. Shettima is a former Governor of Borno State and a close associate of Tinubu, who has been a staunch supporter and campaigner for the choice of Tinubu as the next President of Nigeria.

HURIWA faulted the decision saying “The experience of a Muslim-Muslim ticket in Kaduna State since the last five years by Governor Nasir El-Rufai has shown that the government formed by most leaders of the same sects inevitably stirs up insecurity and violence, just as the Rights group said it amounts to discrimination of other members from other faith, which constitute an infraction against Section 42(1) of the Constitution and violation of broad-based composition of government as spelt out in section 14(3) of the Constitution on Federal Character Principles in a appointments in Nigeria.”

Following what the Association has termed “unconstitutional and illegal decision” of the APC, despite all entreaties to the contrary of a Muslim running mate by its Presidential Candidate, HURIWA also urged Nigerians to reject their decision at the 2023 Presidential poll.
End.
