Tottenham keen on Lookman
Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in securing the services of Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman despite the Nigerian’s failed move to Inter Milan during the summer transfer window.
According to a report from the Independent, Spurs are keeping tabs on multiple attacking options, with the 27-year-old featuring prominently on their transfer wishlist.
The north London club’s continued interest in Lookman comes after Inter Milan’s pursuit of the 2024 CAF Player of The Year collapsed when the Serie A giants failed to meet Atalanta’s €50m valuation.
Inter Milan sports director Giuseppe Marotta recently defended Atalanta’s stance, saying the Bergamo club were within their rights not to sell their star forward.
The failed Inter move saw Lookman initially train separately from Atalanta’s first team squad after he pushed hard for the transfer, even deleting club-related posts from his social media accounts and going on an unauthorised two-week absence.
However, the winger has since been reintegrated into the squad, with Atalanta fans showing their support by gathering around him for autographs after a recent training session in Zingonia.
For Tottenham, Lookman represents an ideal target as they seek to bolster their attacking options. The versatile forward, who can operate both centrally and out wide, has proven himself to be a reliable performer in Italy in recent seasons.
His experience in English football with Leicester City, Fulham, and Everton means he knows the Premier League well and could make an instant impact at Spurs.
Lookman’s statistics speak for themselves – he scored 20 goals and provided seven assists last season while helping Atalanta to their first major European trophy two seasons ago.
Since his move from RB Leipzig, Lookman has netted 52 goals in 118 appearances for the Italian club, establishing himself as one of Serie A’s most consistent attackers.
His ability to add goals and creativity to Tottenham’s attacking unit could prove vital as they look to sustain their impressive start to the season. Having won a European trophy last season, Spurs are ambitious to finish in the top four of the Premier League and compete for more silverware.
The presence of manager Thomas Frank and Tottenham’s ambitious project could appeal to Lookman, who may view this as the right time to try a new challenge after proving himself in Italy.
With Lookman contracted to Atalanta until June 2027, any potential move would require Tottenham to meet the Italian club’s valuation – something Inter Milan were unwilling to do.
