Swedish call filtering service Truecaller has announced that it has reached over 100 million daily active users.

According to the company, it grew to its current figure from 100-million monthly active users less than a year ago.

Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, Truecaller, Alan Mamedi noted that close to a decade ago, he set out to solve what he thought was a simple problem how to figure out who these unknown numbers belong to that keeps calling us little did he know how big of a problem that actually was in all corners of the world

According to him with the proliferation of new and advanced technologies that are ever evolving, Truecaller has also come a long way from simple beginnings as a Caller ID and spam blocking app, to a fully-fledged communications platform with calls, SMS, flash messages.

In his words:

“ WE COULD NEVER HAVE PREDICTED THAT TRUECALLER WOULD BECOME AN INDISPENSABLE RESOURCE FOR WOMEN ’S SAFETY IN MANY COUNTRIES; OR THAT IT WOULD BE USED FOR E-COMMERCE AND COURIER SERVICES AROUND THE GLOBE TO FACILITATE THE DIFFICULT LAST MILE OF DELIVERY, OR ALLOW MORE PEOPLE TO EXPERIENCE A DATA-ONLY PRODUCT IN OFFLINE MODE.”

Truecaller was initially conceived as a call blocking app, filtering spam numbers from users’ call logs. But it has changed a lot as It now filters spam SMS in addition to facilitating payments in some territories and an offering host of other niche services.
