Tyler Perry’s latest movie, Acrimony, starring Taraji P. Henson, was the cause of several Twitter arguments these past few months as Nigerian moviegoers debated the merits of the movie and it’s intricate – if not, emotionally exhausting – plotline.

Now, Tyler Perry has made a new announcement: the iconic Madea character will be retired in 2019.

For the past 20 years, Perry, an actor, producer and director, has played the role of Madea, a gun-carrying, profanity-spouting grandmother who isn’t afraid to throw hands when and if necessary or voice her opinion regardless of whose ox is gored.

Speaking on the SiriusXM radio show, Perry revealed that Madea will make one last appearance in the forthcoming film, ‘Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral’, set to be released in 2019.

However, we are still not sure if, as the movie’s name suggests, if it is Madea’s funeral.

Since the character’s debut in 1999 in the play, ‘I Can Do Bad All by Myself’, it has grossed more than $500 million worldwide at the box office from 10 films.

Perry latest project, ‘Nobody’s Fool’, an upcoming comedy which he filmed and wrote, starring Tiffany Haddish and Whoopi Goldberg, is set to be released this November.
