Under 40 children of billionaires, sitting on the boards of mega quoted companies

Investors on the Nigerian Stock Exchange are probably used to household names such as Aliko Dangote, Mike Adenuga, Femi Otedola, Segun Agbaje, etc. These are directors of some of the biggest companies on the stock exchange and they are all worth billions of Naira in valuation.

However, there are a crop of young Nigerians, who due to the great work of their parents, currently have seats on the boards of some of the largest companies on the Exchange.

For them, having these seats provides them with the unique experience that can be used to perhaps one day takeover the empires of their parents or guardians.

In this article, we bring you the heirs and heiresses seated on the board of some of the largest companies on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). These lads are under 40 and oversee shareholdings on behalf of their parents that are worth billions of Naira in value.

Bella Adenuga

Bella Disu (nee Adenuga) graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Boston with a BA in arts. She is currently studying at the North Eastern University for an MS in Leadership.

Bella is a Group Executive Director at Globacom, a position she has held since June 2004, as well as Chief Executive Officer of Cobblestone Properties.

She was appointed to the board of Julius Berger Plc on June 30, 2017.

Bella has an indirect holding of 288,662,079 shares in Julius Berger Plc, through Goldstone Estates Limited and Bilton Securities Limited. As at our cut-off date, this gives her a networth of N7.94 billion.

Bella is the daughter of billionaire, Mike Adenuga.

Mr. Olakunle Ade Ojo

Olakunle Ade-Ojo is the Managing Director of Toyota Nigeria Ltd. He is a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Reading, and also holds an M.Sc in Automotive Product Engineering from Cranfield University, both in the United Kingdom.

He returned to Nigeria as the Business and Strategic Development Manager of Toyota (Nigeria) Limited and rose through the ranks. He was an Executive Director at Toyota Nigeria Limited until his appointment as the Managing Director of the company.

Olakunle Ade Ojo has an indirect shareholding of 924,907,141 shares in Custodian and Allied Insurance Plc and represents the interests of MikeAde Investments. As at our cutoff date, this gives him a networth of N4.64 billion.

Olakunle Ade Ojo is the son of billionaire, Michael Ade Ojo.

Obafemi  Adedamola Otudeko Jnr.

Obafemi Otudeko is an Executive Director at the Honeywell Group. He leads Group Corporate Development and is responsible for the comprehensive transformation of the Group into a world class admired company.

At PricewaterhouseCoopers, he led and managed various audit and consultancy engagements for major banks and non-bank financial institutions in Nigeria, as well as other special projects.

He also has wide experience managing oil and gas projects. Obafemi is an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, an alumnus of the London Business School, and a member of the UK Energy Institute. He is the second Vice President of the Nigerian Gas Association.

He has 618,000,000 units of shares at Honeywell Flour Mills Plc as at March 31, 2017. As at our cut-off date, this gives him a networth of N1.4 billion.

Obafemi is the son of famous business mogul Oba Otudeko.

Oluwafunsho Obasanjo

Dr. Oluwafunsho Obasanjo obtained an M.Sc in Medicinal Chemistry from University College, London, United Kingdom and also holds a PhD in Bio-Organic Chemistry from the University of East Anglia.

She is also a scientist with insight in the areas of Molecular Biology/Biochemistry, Chemistry, Analytical Techniques, and Bioinformatics.

She was appointed as a Non-Executive Director in Unity Bank on March 18, 2011.

She has 926,104,410 units of shares at Unity Bank Plc. As at the cut-off date, this gives her a networth of N861 million.

Olufunsho is the daughter of one-time Head of State and former President, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Aminu Babangida

Mr. Aminu Babangida attended Regents Business School and Westminster Business School in London where he obtained a BA in International Business and an MA in International Business Management respectively.

Aminu has worked on the trading floor of Trafigura BV, London, UK. He was appointed to the board of Unity Bank Plc in 2011.

His appointment as the Chairman of Unity Bank makes him the country’s youngest bank Chairman ever. He is also the Co-founder of Phoenix Energy.

He has 615, 889,636 units of shares at Unity Bank Plc as of 2016. As at our cut-off date, this gives him a net worth of N572 million.

Aminu is the son of Nigeria’s former military Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida.
