Unity Cup: Dessers scores as S’Eagles beat Ghana 2-1 inLondon
Cyriel Dessers was on target as the Super Eagles edged out the Black Stars of Ghana 2-1 in a fiercely contested Unity Cup match at the Gtech Community Stadium in London on Wednesday night.
The Nigerian side got off to a bright start, asserting control early in the encounter. Dessers opened the scoring in the 14th minute, calmly converting from close range after a slick assist from S. Ismail.
Just five minutes later, Nigeria doubled their lead when Ghanaian defender Razak Simpson mistakenly deflected the ball into his own net while trying to cut out a dangerous cross, giving the Super Eagles a comfortable cushion.
Ghana, however, came out stronger in the second half with renewed urgency. Their persistence paid off midway through the half when Jordan Ayew pulled one back with a powerful strike that beat Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.
Despite late pressure from the Black Stars, Nigeria held firm to secure a morale-boosting victory over their West African rivals. The win marks a positive step for the Super Eagles as they continue preparations ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
