Unlawful detention: Lagos CP redeploys DPO, others
Lagos State Commissioner of Police (CP) Hakeem Odumosu has directed the immediate redeployment of Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Onipanu, CSP Francis Ani, for unlawfully harassing and detaining two residents.
Ani was alleged to have ordered the detention of Tunde Abass and one Kabir Mohammed on Friday, March 19.
Abass was said to have incurred the wrath of the DPO for recording and intervening in the illegal arrest of Mohammed by men of the division around 5 pm that day.
As information of their unlawful detention went viral, Odumosu, according to a statement by spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, directed an investigation into the case which found that the cops were unprofessional in the discharge of their duties.
Odumosu, who frowned at the gross violation of Abass’ human rights by the DPO and his men, said the command under his watch will never condone such unprofessionalism and abuse of power.
Adejobi said: “The police boss took the decision on Wednesday, March 24, after he perused the report of the investigation into the incident that had gone viral on the gross violation of Tunde’s human rights by the DPO and his boys.”
