The Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma has commenced the process of renaming the Imo State University (IMSU) after late Abba Kyari.

Recall that Kyari, the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, passed on following COVID-19 complications on Friday, April 17. He was buried at the Gudu Cemetery in Abuja on Saturday.

According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Oguwuike Nwachuku, Uzodinma made this disclosure when Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adaobi Obasi, led the IMSU management staff on a courtesy visit to the governor at the Government House, Owerri.

He stated that the move became necessary since the late Kyari helped to liberate Imo State, although he did not explain how.

The governor stressed that renaming the university after the CoS was a way to show appreciation to him.

He explained that his administration has commenced stakeholder engagement in the education sector to ensure the plan to rename the institution enjoys support.

Uzodinma urged the IMSU management staff to continue to uphold his administration’s vision of providing qualitative education in the state.

The governor described the institution as the epicentre of this vision and therefore could not afford to be left behind.
