The Southwest Youth Advocacy Network has accused the finance minister, Wale Edun, of frustrating the federal government’s fight against poverty.

In a statement signed by its convener, Comrade Seun Adeaanu, the group asked the president to take action against the recent controversial decisions made by Edun.

The group expressed deep concern over the proposed relocation of the National Social Investment Programmes (NSIP) and other actions taken by the minister as reported by The Cable.

The group said: ”The decision to transfer the NSIP from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to the Ministry of Finance and Coordinating Economy is unacceptable and warrants appropriate action.

”This move, coming at a time when the government is actively addressing economic challenges and working to alleviate the hardship faced by citizens, is insensitive.”

The group stated that the action is at variance with the directives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation should handle such tasks.

According to the group, moving the NSIP to the finance ministry will frustrate the ongoing efforts to address the economic needs of Nigerians.

”Furthermore, the Southwest Youth Advocacy Network is troubled by reports suggesting that Mr. Edun is withholding funds approved and released by the Federal Government for the 2024 Hajj Commission.

”The delay in disbursing these funds and rising Hajj fares are causing distress to intending pilgrims.

”In light of these concerns, we call on President Bola Tinubu to thoroughly investigate the actions of Wale Edun and take decisive measures to address any wrongdoing,” Comrade Adeaanu added.

The group stated that accountability and transparency in governance are critical, especially in matters affecting the welfare of the people.

”We urge President Tinubu to uphold the principles of good governance and ensure that public officials act in the best interest of the citizens,” the statement concluded.(Vanguard)
