Wema Bank shakes up Women’s month with ₦11M cash splash for 131 Women

Wema Bank has reaffirmed its commitment to women’s empowerment by disbursing a staggering ₦11,000,000 to 131 women across Nigeria.

This remarkable gesture took centre stage during the Women’s Month edition of the bank’s 5 for 5 Promo, held on Friday, March 21, 2025, in Aba, Nigeria.

Since its inception in 2021, the 5 for 5 Promo has remained a game-changer in customer reward programmes, doling out over ₦150,000,000 to 2,378 Nigerians across all six geopolitical zones. Now in its electrifying fourth season, the promo boasts a massive ₦135,000,000 cash prize pool.

With the season kicking off in October 2024, Wema Bank has already disbursed over ₦50,000,000 through daily, weekly, and monthly draws. In a powerful tribute to women, the bank directed the entire ₦11,000,000 cash prize of its fifth monthly draw exclusively to female winners, solidifying its stance on gender inclusivity.

Among the elated recipients were Ogechukwu Patience Ani from Aba, Vanessa Chiamaka Ogbonna from Lagos, and Mubarakah Abisola Alowonle from Bodija—each walking away with a life-changing ₦1,000,000.

Eight other women secured ₦250,000 each, 40 winners received ₦100,000, while 80 women smiled home with ₦25,000 each. The draw marked a triumphant end to Women’s Month, financially uplifting women from diverse backgrounds and reinforcing Wema Bank’s unwavering commitment to female empowerment.

Congratulating the winners, Wema Bank’s MD/CEO, Moruf Oseni (FCIB), passionately reaffirmed the bank’s dedication to supporting women’s growth in all spheres.

“Wema Bank was founded on the precept of empowerment. Since 1945, we have carried on this legacy, promoting financial inclusion for the indigenous people of Nigeria and equipping them with the resources they need to thrive. But for us, this journey has not been a one-size-fits-all approach,” Oseni stated.

He further highlighted the bank’s deliberate efforts in bridging gender gaps through women-focused initiatives, particularly SARA by Wema, a platform designed to cater to women’s financial and entrepreneurial needs.

“We have simply leveraged the 5 for 5 Promo as one more way of supporting our women this Women’s Month. For us, it’s all about impact, and we are delighted to have put smiles on the faces of Nigerian women from all across the country. That is the joy for us.”

Expressing appreciation to customers, Oseni added, “To the 131 women who emerged winners, I say a hearty congratulations to you, and I take this opportunity to also thank you for choosing Wema Bank and continuing to trust our services.

“We do not take it for granted. For 80 years, we have pulled all stops to deliver the best quality of impactful banking to the people of Nigeria, and I boldly reaffirm that we will never relent in providing a rewarding, fulfilling, and empowering banking experience for every customer of Wema Bank.”

From commemorating International Women’s Day in grand style to awarding ₦11,000,000 in the 5 for 5 Promo, offering billions in loans, and facilitating market access for women, Wema Bank has cemented itself as a financial powerhouse that champions the economic empowerment of women.
