Asake, the Afrobeats sensation, has responded to fans criticising him for singing in Yoruba.

During a live Instagram session on Sunday, a fan inquired why Asake does not adopt English as the primary language for his songs.

Some other fans also argued that he should sing more often in English since his music is now reaching a broader audience.

Responding, Asake said he prefers making music in Yoruba because “it makes me more comfortable”.

The ‘Terminator’ hitmaker also insinuated that fans who do not appreciate his music in Yoruba should stop listening.

“The thing is, I am more comfortable singing my songs in Yoruba. Not that I can not still sing it in English. There are some parts in which I use English but I think I am more comfortable with Yoruba,” he said.

Last year, the Grammy-nominated singer revealed that he sings in Yoruba because music transcends language barriers.

Asake rose to prominence in 2020 with his hit song ‘Lady’. The singer joined YBNL, the record label owned by Olamide, in February 2022.

Asake has three studio albums to his name including ‘Mr Money With The Vibes’ (2022) and ‘Work of Art’ (2023), and ‘Lungu‘, (2024). He has also earned a plethora of awards and nominations for his craft.

He was nominated in the Best African Music Performance’ category at the 2024 Grammys for ‘Amapiano’, his hit song with Olamide, the rapper.(the cable)
