Why Nigeria Air, airport concession remain suspended, by Keyamo

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has said he will not dismiss red flags being raised by citizens and aviation agencies on concession of the country’s four major airports and the Nigeria Air project.

During a facility tour of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, yesterday, Keyamo insisted the two projects remain suspended until final decisions are taken by the Federal Government.

He said: “No final decision has been taken on all of these. It will be very irresponsible of me as a minister to come in, with agencies of government raising red flags, here and there, and I keep quiet. I’m not even talking about Nigerians complaining; agencies of government are raising red flags about both projects.”

He added: “People were already putting machineries in motion to commit themselves, to save themselves and save us. I said, ‘Don’t commit. Hold on. Don’t commit anything, so that your commitments will not go…’ Like I said before, be responsive to the feelings of Nigerians, to the red flags that have been raised by certain agencies of government; and then, we can take a final decision.”
On the second runway project, the minister disclosed that after payment of compensation to residents affected by the construction, the contractor assured it would move to site next week.
