The Yobe state police command has arrested a housewife, Zainab Isa (22) for allegedly killing her husband, Ibrahim Yahaya (25) at Abbari ward in Damaturu.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Dungus Abdulkareem, made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Damaturu.
He said, ‘’The command was saddened by the unfortunate actions of a couple that led to the death of a promising young man due to the consequences of an abusive marriage.’’
According to him, the C Divisional Police Headquarters received a complaint from a neighbor in Abbari ward, Damaturu, that the couple had a violent argument today which escalated into a scuffle.
He said the neighbour of the couple told the police that the wife used a knife to stab the husband in the chest, and he died before the police rescue team arrived.
The PPRO said the suspect was brought to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for discreet investigation.
The suspect said she did not intend to kill her husband but stabbed him in self-defense during a beating and kicking incident from her husband, adding that she was still recovering from a recent medical operation from child birth.
She further stated that their marriage had been marred with violence from the onset, often occurring when she requested for food or money, and had continued even after the birth of their first child.(Daily Trust)
