Wizkid breaks Spotify record with ‘Piece of My Heart’

Afrobeats star, Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has broken a new Spotify record in Nigeria with his latest track, ‘Piece of My Heart’.

After months of teasing fans, Wizkid dropped his first song of 2024, featuring American singer Brent Faiyaz, on October 19.
The track has now racked up an impressive 1.01 million streams in just 24 hours, setting a new benchmark for first-day streams on Spotify Nigeria.

Before this, Wizkid held the previous record alongside Asake with their hit collaboration ‘MMS’ from Asake’s third album, Lungu Boy.

Now, ‘Piece of My Heart’ not only dethrones that track but also adds another milestone to Wizkid’s achievements.
He currently holds the top three spots for the highest first-day streams on Spotify Nigeria, with ‘IDK’, his joint effort with Zlatan, sitting comfortably in third place.

What makes this latest win even more special is that ‘Piece of My Heart’ is the first song from an African artist to cross the 1 million stream mark on Spotify within 24 hours.

Wizkid’s latest success reinforces his position as one of Nigeria’s biggest musical exports, while also showing the growth of streaming platforms like Spotify in the country. With more Nigerians turning to streaming, the music scene is clearly evolving.

The release of this track also officially begins the ‘Morayo’ chapter for Wizkid, leading up to his much-anticipated sixth album, set to drop on November 22, 2024.

During the song’s launch event in London, the Grammy-winning artiste gave fans a taste of the new project, which he revealed is a heartfelt tribute to his late mother.
