According to him, women should not to pursue a career or struggle to be wealthy, as their major role in the society is to bear and raise children.

Mazi Uju Nwokorobia also said that women may end up unhappy if they neglect the natural role of bearing and raising children.

He wrote on his Facebook page:

“The major role of women in the society is to bear and raise children. It is not to pursue a career or struggle to be wealthy. A woman who neglects this natural role may turn out unhappy.”

As expected, his statement drew widespread criticism, and has gotten loads of negative responses on the platform.

Stanley Uzodinma Okorie wrote: “Women can make money even in Igbo land. Money is also a major role.”

Justice Nnaemeka stated that not every woman wants to bear a child, he wrote: “Not every woman wants to bear children. Living abroad should have taught u that. But every woman wants to love someone and be loved, care, nuture and be part of someone or something. That capacity to love and care is their natural role.

There are so many happy couples who would rather not have children.”

Obia Nuju strongly disagreed with him writing: “Lol. Making money makes us more accretive and independent. This mentality is why many poor widows abound. Women are not made for only child bearing.”

Uchenna Eneremadu advised Mazi Uju Nwokorobia to take down the post, as it might insult the sensibilities of many:

“I strongly believe that this post should be taken down. It might insult the sensibilities of many, both males and females.”
