The entire city of 11 million people went into a 76-day hard lockdown after the outbreak of the disease, but the city has not detected a new coronavirus case in three months, probably reason why residents troop out in their thousands to celebrate.

The lockdown was lifted in April and there have been no domestically transmitted cases in Wuhan or Hubei province since mid-May.

Thousands of people gathered at the Wuhan Maya Beach Water Park over the weekend for an electronic music festival, with no face masks or social distancing to be seen.

Outdoor attractions and tourist sites have gradually reopened across the country with restrictions.

In order to enter the Wuhan water park, party-goers need to reserve tickets online in advance with their national ID number.

On the day, they need to present their ID and a green health code generated from mobile apps that track people’s movements and whether they are subject to virus quarantine.

According to local media, more than 3,000 people attended the event.
