You’ve Placed Nigeria In Global Spotlight, President Buhari Commends Nigerian Chef, Hilda Baci On New Cooking Marathon Record

President Muhammadu Buhari has extolled the Akwa Ibom-born Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, for breaking the Guinness World Record for marathon cooking.

But Guinness World Records has not yet confirmed Baci as the new world record holder for the longest cooking time, saying it will have to review all evidence before doing so.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that Hilda on Monday morning broke the current record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual” after clocking in at 87 hours and 50 minutes.

Hilda, the Nigerian Jollof Queen, started the competition on Thursday at 4 p.m. by turning on her cooker, and she beat the current world record holder on Monday morning.

If she is certified by Guinness World Records, she will top the current world record holder, Lata Tondon, an Indian chef who achieved the feat in 2019 with 87 hours 45 minutes of record-breaking uninterrupted cooking.

Meanwhile, Baci intends to set a new record of 96 hours.

Commending Hilda Baci on Monday, President Buhari described her as a cultural icon whose drive, ambition and resilience have brought great interest and insight into the uniqueness of Nigerian food and have placed Nigeria in the global spotlight.

Buhari wrote on his Twitter handle saying, “I share the immense joy of all Nigerians as Hilda Bassey Effiong (Hilda Baci) makes history by breaking the world record for longest cooking marathon.

“A great day for Nigeria. We’re all very proud of what she has personally accomplished—and placing Nigeria in the global spotlight.

“Hilda’s drive, ambition and resilience have brought great interest and insight into the uniqueness of Nigerian food. She is now a cultural icon, and I believe that this feat will inspire many more young people, in Nigeria and beyond, to follow in her footsteps.”
