Zamfara APC Vows To Punish Members Challenging Matawalle’s Leadership
Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned it will take disciplinary action against members undermining the party’s leadership in the state.
The statement, issued on Tuesday in Gusau by the State APC Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, emphasized the party’s continued support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Idris stated, “The APC leadership under Alhaji Tukur Danfulani, we reiterate our support to President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the country. Danfulani was elected under the supervision of INEC through a National Secretariat Congress Committee headed by a highly respected party man, Senator Kabiru Masari, who is the current political adviser to President Bola Tinubu.”
He condemned statements attributed to Mansur Khalifa, whom he described as an “insignificant figure” in both the state and national APC circles, stating, “The Zamfara State chapter of the APC, read with dismay a concoction of lies attributed to one Mansur Khalifa, a nonentity in the official circles of the APC both in Zamfara and at the National Secretariat of our great party in Abuja.”
According to Idris, Khalifa, along with Aminu Jaji, was suspended from the party on March 17, 2024, for “their alleged disrespect to the party and other forms of misconduct.”
“It is surprising that a non-member of the party or someone who has been suspended indefinitely from the party from ward level, ratified by the State Executives and confirmed by the National Secretariat of the party,” he continued.
Idris also expressed concern over Jaji’s apparent ties with opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP). “We have observed the Mr Jaji support group’s constant alleged romance with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party and the Social Democratic Party, saying they are inching towards their possible defection from the APC,” he said.
Regarding recent Ramadan donations, Idris thanked party leaders, including former governor Abdulaziz Yari and Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle, for their support to the community. “The party’s communiqué appreciated the individuals mentioned who supported the members of the party. The party remains fully grateful to them; we urge them to continue to do more for the benefit of our members and the entire people of the state,” Idris said. He added that these leaders had supported thousands of beneficiaries across the state with cash, grains, and clothing materials.
Idris also reaffirmed that Matawalle remains the leader of Zamfara APC, stating, “The APC has a constitution that guides its politicking which whether they like it or not, he is the leader of Zamfara APC. The constitution of our great party has clearly spelt out that if there is a sitting governor in a state who is a member of APC, he is the leader. If there is no minister from the state, a past governor is the leader.”
“So, Matawalle, both as the immediate past governor and the current minister from Zamfara, is the APC leader. Challenging Matawalle is misconduct and disrespect to the party’s constitutional guideline.”
